My left leg is tore up from the floor up – from osteoarthritis in my hip and toe, torn ligament in my foot, torn hamstring tendon and muscle, and complex ankle fracture.  Doctors were talking about a hip replacement.  Thanks for asking; my right leg is just fine.

My mobility was compromised; weakness kept me from being active, and pain was a constant companion.  Sleep was never easy, and frequently required pain relievers and sleep aids.  In particular, I had thigh pain that many medical professionals assumed just needed a good muscle stretching.  My new massage therapist was doing a great job relieving some of the pain.  It turns out she was using Muscle Activation Techniques(M.A.T.) which she was learning during a MAT training that was hosted at TELOS.  Here I was driving 24 miles to get to her when I could drive 4 miles to get to TELOS, and where there is some of the best M.A.T. Specialist in the metroplex.  My membership at TELOS was a given; now I just needed to visit the gym.  I joined in February ’14.

Matt Lindenmeyer is my Ortho-Kinetics® Trainer/Therapist, and he is a perfect match for me.  I needed someone who could navigate the minefield of my pain and weakness with humor, wisdom, and tenacity.  Initially, we peeled back the layers of my injuries to determine what came first and what weakness was related to that injury.  My first visits always included a pain report, where was I hurting, and how much.  He could seemingly by magic relieve and then trigger weakness in my leg, thus directing his work.  The myth of my muscles just needing a good stretching was debunked.  The thigh pain I had experienced was a result of nerve pain due to the arthritis in my hip.  The lack of symmetry in my areas of strength and weakness is also an issue we continue to work on.  I’ve learned to not think of addressing just one muscle, but the system of muscles that keeps my body in balance and harmony.

The skill level Matt displays is unbelievable.  Here it is only June, and I am essentially pain free.  I get only minor indications that my left leg is not perfect. I will not be considering hip replacement surgery in the foreseeable future.  The relief I feel is life changing, and the strength I am building will take me on adventures I wasn’t sure I could take on any more. This has truly been a life changing experience!

Thanks TELOS, and thanks Matt!  You are the best!
