Motivated to change…A year and a half ago I had just given birth to my second child and was probably the most out of shape I had ever been in my life, having gained nearly fifty pounds during my pregnancy. Prior to even getting pregnant I had scored only a poor rating during the exercise portion of a physical and had been strongly lectured to about the need to exercise. I've never enjoyed exercise and I really hadn't worked out at all since my business partner and I started our company nearly fifteen years ago. But all of that changed when I made a goal of being in the best physical shape of my life on my next (fortieth!) birthday. My business partner and I joined TELOS and brought nine of our employees with us.
My life has literally been transformed in the past year and a half and TELOS has certainly played a crucial role in that transformation. Kristin Moses and Pilates have helped me develop core strength and find stomach muscles I thought I had lost forever. Sandy Bell has trained me (physically as well as mentally) to discover strength within me that I never knew was there. I am stronger and in better shape than I've ever been in my life having lost the baby weight plus 10% more! And it doesn't stop there. Yvette Quantz gently coaxed me into making different food choices which did not make me feel deprived! And as I continue to learn to reduce physical stress in my life, I consider Leroy Sam to be just shy of savior status for using massage plus a number of other bodywork modalities to keep me pain free.
Finally, what I've found at TELOS (and which I was not looking for) is a supportive community. As the "third place" I spend the most time behind home and work, I truly love everything about the atmosphere and the people such that the nourishment goes well beyond the physical. It's the one place I go to focus entirely on taking care of me and where I feel I have an entire support system that is also focused on my well being. How all of this care has spilled over to transform my personal and business lives would require much more space but suffice to sum it up with a quote from John Dryden: "We first make our habits and then they make us."
